last night in maine

so after inquiring about THE COCKATOO, we found out that they recently moved, no longer on the east side of this island along side the fish shack, but on the west side, and it turns out someone bought this lodge and loved her food & decided she had to move in & open a restaurant...she agreed & thus is born new joint. Down a reverse left turn (think heading toward 12 oclock, the road was at 7oclock.) then it turns into a dirt road & ends at a little cove- sounds so charming. Portuguese island seafood, mmmm

rough around the edges:
An unsolicited review, and not refective of the evening, we still had fun & Cat said good.
turns out, this was day 4 of this opening & they had trouble finding experienced waitstaff, green as can be, not fine dining which we can take, no prob.
and the CHEF (what is her name) actually hired someone who her brother found in a bookstore in MASS, ( we heard this through a co/diner who were lawyers from Wilm DE ...imagine that) so she this super duper special chef wasn't even cooking and it was day 4ish, and no soft opening , just balls out -do it - stuff. I had higher expectations, based on the reviews of the eastern island joint. but understand the issues of first run restaurant stuff. we ordered paella & I thought it was classic to have the seafood mixed in with yummy rice, (again according to our co diner mates, the way she serves paella is the classic way in spain, in the shell seafood, hmmm) yes it was better than the only other place in town called fishermans friend, which visually had the same effect as the lozenge.

here is a story about the place on the other side of the island, I'm sure it'll be up to par soon

ANd this is my last day in maine, drive to boston this afternoon, I have to try to get to sleep real soon

I'm really enjoying this blog, very much looking forward to visiting each evening. Keep it up! Sounds like you're having a great time. Wish I was there ... away from all this heat and all these crazed tourons.
